St. Lukes Church, Smithfield, VA
This picture is from the picture archive of VAGENWEB.COM.

This is the only original Gothic Church that is still standing in the United States. It was originally built by the early Smithfield, VA residents. Many of the earlier Cutchin's are buried here and in fact two of them are believed to be buried under this church. In the 1600s, very importent people to the church were buried right in the dirt floor of the church. A few people were buried there and when it was restored in the 1800s, Historians covered the floor with fiberglass and wood. They moved the head stones from the church floor to out in front of the church, except for two of them because they were slate slabs. Two of those people moved out front had the last name Cutchin.
